This lighthouse is located in the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park on the northern tip of Long Beach Island NJ. The Barnegat was originally commissioned in 1859 and stands at a whopping 163′ which is 172 feet above sea level. This is amazingly four times taller than the original Barnegat Lighthouse from 1834 which stood at only 40 feet in height. The Barnegat lighthouse remained in full operation up until 1944. At that time the US Coast Guard deactivated the lighthouse. The Barnegat lighthouse received its name officially in 1954 when the US government handed the lighthouse over the local municipality Barnegat City, thus the city named it the Barnegat Lighthouse. At this time the original lens was 
returned back to the city and can still be seen today at the Barnegat Light Museum. The Barnegat lighthouse was not operational for more than 65 years until the a nonprofit organization called the Friends of the Barnegat lighthouse organized and raised funds to make the lighthouse operational again. In one year the organization raised over $35,000 and purchased a new VRB-25 beacon Lighting system and brought the lighthouse back to life on January 1st 2009.
Now the Barnegat lighthouse is once again a pillar of light just like it was оvеr 150 уеаrs ago. Since the new instillation of the beacon the US Соаst Guard еndоrsеd the lеns and now boaters can see the Barnegat Lighthouse frоm more than 20 nаutісаl mіlеs away.
